Homeschool Speech and Debate Tournament

Date

March 23, 2017

Additional Information

Judges Needed for student speech and debate tournament:  NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY and a great way to familiarize yourself with an opportunity for your homeschooled student.

March 23-25 at Southeastern Bible College campus on Valleydale Rd will be an NCFCA (National Christian Forensics and Communications Association) Homeschool Speech and Debate Tournament.  This is a regional tournament with students from five states.

Diane Poythress the Judge Coordinator says the following:

We will need more than 400 community judges during the tournament. The only requirement is that you be at least 19 years old. Absolutely no experience or background is needed. The only training you need will be provided during a very brief orientation at the tournament. Judging a round will require approximately three hours of your time, from start to finish, and this includes orientation and refreshments. If you can break away for an extended lunch time, we will serve you lunch; if you come by after work, we will feed you dinner. We especially need judges to take those early debate rounds on Thursday and Friday, and we will start your day with coffee and breakfast if you come then.

To learn more about what is involved in judging, and to sign up, please go to www.ncfcajudges.com . Click on the green states twice until you find "Birmingham Qualifier" at the top of the page. From there, you can select a specific time slot to register to judge. Signing up in advance helps us tremendously. Don't worry about forgetting; you will receive a reminder notice. (If you sign up for a slot and then need to change or cancel, you can certainly do that.) To find out more about the NCFCA in general, please see www.NCFCA.org .

The key takeaways are these: 1) our students are learning how to address life issues from a Biblical world view in a manner that glorifies God; 2) we are grateful if you can help in training them to that end by volunteering to judge a round.

Thank you for considering serving as a judge for us. I hope to see you there!
