Brief Course Description:
Using "IEW's Geography-Based Writing Lessons", students will write summaries, paragraphs and descriptive essays using four classic books by H.C. Holling.  Students will also practice grammar and editing skills using "Editor and Chief" and other grammar material.  Some vocabulary will be introduced.

Prerequisite Requirements:
Students must have experience using the IEW writing style for paragraphs from a key-word outline using a check list for "dress-ups" and "sentence starters".

Brief Course Description:
Write Shop I will be used to increase essay writing skills. Literature selections, grammar and vocabulary will be used in some assignments.

Prerequisite Requirements:
Students must be able to write a three paragraph essay.

Literary Analysis II
Grade Range: 9-12 (must have had Lit Analysis I or similar)

Brief Course Description:
Continues developing the literary criticism introduced in Literary Analysis 1 using poems, short stories, drama and novels.  Emphasis on vocabulary development and writing analytical essays as well as a creative unit-How to Write a Story.

Prerequisite Requirements:
Students need to have taken Literary Analysis 1, Windows to the World or similar course.

ACT English, Reading and Essay Prep

Grade Range: 9-12 (no 8th graders please)
Day/Time: Thursdays, 9:00 - 10:25

Course Fee: $135/semester

This 30 week course will use ACT practice tests and materials to prepare for the English and Reading Tests as well as the written essay. The first semester will be 10 weeks reading prep/5 weeks essay prep.  The second semester will be all English prep. Students may take one or both semesters.
